Atturaif Living Museum, Saudi Arabia

Atturaif, located at Dirriyah, approx. 30km north of Riyadh, was the capital of the First Saudi State, and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

During the 18th and early 19th centuries, Atturaif was the centre of power for the House of Saudi and the spread of the Wahhabi Islamic Reform movement.

In conjunction with Tropman & Tropman Architects, LookEar was engaged to develop detailed interpretive, museological and exhibition design for a range of museum spaces and historic buildings within this historic site. This included the Arabian Horse Museum, Military Museum, Daily Life Museum and the Adobe Architecture Museum.

LookEar’s designs included:

  • the development of detailed content and scripts

  • 2D and 3D design

  • digital multimedia design

  • curatorial guidelines for valuable collection items

  • consultation with Islamic and Saudi Arabian history scholars/ experts

  • high-level presentations to the client’s project team.

 

LookEar’s involvement in the project continued as part of the Site Management Team, to ensure the quality and integrity of the final documentation, fabrication and installation.

Awards include:

2020 MEED (Middle East Economic Digest) 'National Winner' Social, Cultural and Heritage Project of the Year.
